    Cousin Doug is searching for information on John Drury Self, b. about 1818 in South Carolina and died in old Campbell County, GA in 1884. He was married in 1839 in Wilkes County, GA to Louisa Grimsley and moved near Douglasville, GA. Among his children was William Zachariah Self, b. 1846. Please contact Webmaster.

    Cousin Janice would like any information concerning William Self, b. about 1770. He m. Dorcas --- and was in Montgomery Co., MD on June 5, 1789 when his son, Obediah, was born and on Mar 5, 1803 when daughter Nancy was born. The family then moved to VA and had children William and John. William Jr. and Obediah went to Hocking County in 1850, and William's household included his mother in 1860.     Cousin Audrey is searching for ancestors of Elijah Self, b. 1838 in Jefferson County, AL to Mary or Mahala Self from NC. Elijah married Martha M. Williams and had children George T.     Cousins Cecile and Barbara are searching for the ancestry of John Walker Self who lived in both MS and LA. John Walker was a Confederate soldier, a Private in Company F, 39th MS Infantry. He enlisted on April 30, 1862 in Simpson County, MS and was captured by Union Soldiers on July 9, 1863. He was released, went AWOL on Feb. 8, 1864 near Enterprise, MS, and went back on May 25, 1864. His mother's name was Elizabeth. He married Theodocia Bridges from Simpson, MS. and had a son named Elijah, b. 1866 and had a twin brother named Lemuel. The family is closely associated with Natchitoches Parish, LA. We think that John Walker might come from the William Isaac/Dicey (Vaugh) Self line. If anyone can help, please contact Webmaster.

    Cousin Sherry would like to know which Edward Self of Hart County, KY married Sarah Cotterell/Cottrell. She needs confirmation that Sarah, b. 1837, was the daughter of Henry Cotterell, b. about 1775. Please contact Webmaster.

    Cousin Yvonne is looking for these three children of Isaac T. and Mary M. (Hendrix) Self. All were born in Jefferson County, AL. and last seen on the 1870 U.S. Census for that location: Joseph C.     Cousin Margret is looking for the ancestors of Parrish Self who m. Mary Thompson, daughter of William Thompson Jr. and Hanna Bell. His estate settlement is in Chatham County, NC, Deed Book Z, page 255, 1818, where his children are named: Elizabeth, wife of James Duncan; Hanna, wife of James Story; Nancy, wife of Richard Brooks; Letitia Thompson, widow (married her 1st cousin, son of Balaam Thompson); sons: William, Garner, Thompson, Balaam. Balaam Self m. Elizabeth Hart, 1791, Hillsborough District, Orange County, NC. More information: Willoughby Self is also listed in the 1820 census with Balaam Self. Balaam's wife, Elizabeth, is the cousin of John Hart who married Sally Duncan, sister of James Duncan (above). James Story's sister Margaret married John Duncan, brother of James Duncan.     Job Gilham Selph was an interesting character. Born between 1790 and 1800, possibly in Raleigh, NC, he carried the title of Major. In addition, he was a fine silversmith, well known in MS for silverware distinguished by his initials, "J.S.," engraved on the handles. Job Gilham Selph married Sep. 23, 1835 in Hinds County, MS., Sarah Henrietta McManis, b. about 1817, possibly in SC and d. June 6, 1899 in Madisonville, LA. He died between 1851 and 1860. Children were: Colin McRae Selph, b. 1839; Walter Archibald Selph, b. about 1838; Dudley Selph, b. about 1850; and Harry Hill Selph, b. about 1852.     Cousin RoseMary is looking for information about Nancy Self who m. William Crumbley in Union County, GA on Feb. 25, 1845. A six-year-old child lived with this family in the 1850 Census of Union County--her name was Celia. She may have been the Celia Jones of the 1880 Census whose household also included William Andrew Crumley, Celia's nephew.     Cousin Fay is looking for Scott Self who may have worked for the Santa Fe Railroad along with her father, N. E. D. ("Ned") Whipple. He may have lived in Beaumont, TX. If you know this Scott Self, his daughter is looking for him. She was born in 1969; and her mother, Helen, was close friends with Dreama Whipple, wife of "Ned" Whipple.     Cousin Richard is looking for the father of Nathaniel and Elijah Self (born in TN in 1805 and 1809, respectively). Their mother was Elizabeth "Betsy" Self. Their father died (an assumption) 1809 to 1812. Betsy Self remarried Jacob Ware/Wear in Rhea County, TN in 1813. Betsy's parents were Isaac Self, Sr. and Nancy (maiden name unknown) Self. They all moved to AL in 1817 and lived there the remainder of their lives.

    Cousin Caryn's Self ancestors remained in Virginia. She would like to know the ancestry of Walter Franklin (Frank) Self, b. 1863 and d. Oct. 13, 1918 in Spotsylvania County, VA. He m. July 21, 1885 in Caroline County, VA., Addie Virginia Sale, b. 1867 and d. Mar. 28, 1932, approximately. They had 9 children: "Peaches" (b. 1883), "Suzie" (b. 1884), Boyd Walker, b. 1890, William J., b. 1895, Lelia, b. 1898, Myrtle, b. 1899, Elmo Franklin (b. 1902, Caryn's grandfather), Benjamin Franklin, b. 1912, and Lonnie Lloyd.     Cousin Geneva is seeking information on Margaret Reed, born in KY and shown as age 67 on the 1870 Census for Scott County, AR, Blackfork Twp., living with John Self, wife Elizabeth, and daughter Mary F. Self, age 13. Was Margaret Reed the mother of Elizabeth Self? Please contact Webmaster.

    Cousin Shirley needs help in learning the ancestry of her grandfather, Gabrel Self. He was married twice, first to a woman whose name is unknown. He had two or three sons by this marriage, one named Odis (m. Bessy ---, both killed in an auto accident near Bokoshe, OK in the late '60s or early '70s) and one named Floyd. His second marriage was to Belle Irene Self. Gabrel and Belle lived in Keota, OK until their deaths. Belle Self died in Jan. 1962 in Keota, OK. They had three boys also: Gabrel, Jr. who may still be alive today; Samuel, killed in Korea before 1953; and George Eugene Self, killed in Korea on Nov. 22, 1953.     Cousin Marilyn would like to know more about Jacob L. (or S.) Self (1823-186?), preferably a war record, cemetery record, or will. Jacob was the youngest son of Melchezedec Self. He m.     1. Desire information on my Great Grandparents, William D. Selph and Mary Lang, their parents, siblings, or other family members. Census records indicate William D. Selph born about 1809 in NC, as were both his parents (location unknown) and Mary Lang, born about 1818 in TN (location unknown) and both her parents born in NC (location unknown). They were married in Maury Co., TN 6 June 1835 and had children born, about, as follows: George 1836, Julia 1837, John A. 1840, William M. 1840, Anderson Pinkney 1845, Martha J. 1846, James C. 1848, Sydney 1852, Thomas 1854, Eliza or Louisa 1859. Census records show William D. and Mary in Lewis Co., TN 1850, Madison Co., TN 1860, Gibson Co., TN 1870 and Crockett Co., TN 1880. Will be glad to share anyinformation about this family.

    2. Like to contact any descendant of James C. Selph, b. ca 1848, believed to have gone to Dyer Co., TN at the end of the Civil War.     Cousin Todd would like to find the ancestry of Joseph Self who m. Sarah Gouldin/Gaulding on Dec. 21, 1829 in Prince Edward County, VA. Joseph Self was born 1806, supposedly in Prince Edward County, VA but possibly in Scotland. He died in MO. Sarah, his wife, was born 1816 in VA and also died in MO. Joseph Self was a blacksmith. He was in Bath County, KY before 1841 but was in MO either before or after that time--or both. He had a son, Joshua Emmet Self, b. Aug. 24, 1833 in either MO or VA. Joshua Emmet Self m. Jan. 3, 1867, Lucy Jane Kiser; he died Apr. 1, 1901 in MO. Other children of Joseph and Sarah Self may have included Mary 1836, John 1841, Ann E. 1842, and Vernetta 1845. Please contact Webmaster.

    Cousin Susan is looking for information on her grandfather, Mason Grover Self. He was born in Cherryville, NC and died about 1924. He lived most of his life in Jacksonville, FL, worked for the railroad, and may have been part Cherokee. He had at least one brother named William. He m.     Margaret L. Self was born about 1864 in AR and d. Apr. 1913 in Sebastian County, AR. She m. (1) Andrew Jackson Fry, b. Aug. 3, 1840 in Rhea County, TN and d. Apr. 25, 1888 in Sebastian County, AR. Her children from this marriage were: Phillip Luther, Van Houstan, Enoch Austin, Calvin Andrew, and Henry Felix. She m. (2) about 1890, Christopher Parian, and had one child, Alva, who m. --- Patterson. Margaret L. Self had a half-brother named Ephraim Fletcher.     Our Nebraska cousin Paul, as well as California Cousins Kathleen and Nancy, are searching for the parents of Isaac Self, b. about 1807 in GA and d. before 1863 in AR. Possible parents are John Self and Tabitha ("Toby") (O'Neal) Self or Baxter and Betsy (O'Ryan) Self. Isaac had a brother, Jethro Self, b. about 1810, also in Georgia. We believe both men received land in the Cherokee Land Lottery around 1827-1830. Isaac Self married Sarah ("Sally") Jeter. Together they lived in GA, AL, MS, and AR. Their ten children were Elizabeth, Susan, Tabitha, John, Betsy Jane, Isaac, Mary Ann Missouri, Sarah Ann Louisiana, Andrew, and William.  (Isaac's first son, John Self, was born 1837 in AL and married Nancy Hamby.)     Cousin Dan is searching for the parents of Archibald A. Self and William A. Self, both of Indiana. Archibald A. Self was born in 1822 and died Apr. 13, 1860 in Orange County, IN. He m. (1) Elizabeth ---; and (2) Sep. 19, 1854 in Crawford County, IN., Nancy Douthit. Children by his first wife were Joshua (1844), William (1846), and Mary (1848) and possibly others by either marriage. William A. Self was born about 1835 and m. Sep. 20, 1855 in Crawford County, IN., Amelia Douthit.     Cousin Ed is researching Jacob C. Self, b. 1838 in Cobb County, GA. and William Self, b. 1836. They were both in GA. Jacob C. Self probably married (1) Frances Whitney, daughter of Zeno W. and Ruth (Evans) Whitney. Their children were Zeno W. Self, b. 1857; William Joseph Self, b. 1858; and Mary J. Self, b. 1860. Jacob C. Self m. (2) in Bibb County, GA., Sarah E. E. Smith. William Self, b. 1836, may have lived in Dooley County, GA and also in Cobb County.     Cousin Tammie would like to know the ancestry of her great-grandfather, Jim Self. He was a preacher and plantation owner and lived in MS, possibly Calhoun County. He m. Mattie James, first cousin to Frank and Jesse James. They had several children, three of whom were Elzey Enoch Self, Eula Mae Self, and Bertie Lee Self. Elzey Enoch Self was born Aug. 1, 1901 and d. Dec. 15, 1984. He m. Oct. 22, 1922, Clara ---, who d. in 1953. They lived in Panola County, MS.     Cousin Sherrie's Great-Grandfather, William M. Selph, came by Wagon Train to Oregon in 1853. He was born in Nashville, TN in 1848. He married the Wagon Master's daughter, Julia Chitwood and had four children. Cousin Sherrie would like to find William M. Selph's ancestors and learn when her family changed the spelling of their surname to "Selph." (Note: we have a marriage between William Selph and Julia A.     Cousin Gordon is looking for more information on his Grandfather, Oscar Self, born in Beaver Dam, WI in 1900. Oscar emigrated to Peace River, Alberta, Canada around 1910 and later moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada.     Cousin Selma is trying to find out more about her grandfather. His name is Webbon Self, and he was born in GA. He married Mattie Guest, also from GA.     Cousin Scott is seeking information about the ancestry of his great-grandmother, Julia Dean Self (b. June 23, 1865 in Alabama; d. May 31, 1953, in Georgetown, Texas). She was the second wife of Joseph Newton Chafin (b. June 18, 1848 in Newton County, GA; d. July 6, 1934 in Lampasas, Texas). They married sometime shortly after 1880 in, perhaps, either Fayette or Franklin County, Alabama.
    UPDATE: Cousin Scott has identified Julia Dean (Self) Chafin as the aunt of E. T. Self of Red Bay, Franklin County, AL who was born on Dec. 8, 1875. From a letter written by E. T. Self to Julia Chafin, he has ascertained that E. T. had siblings: Moran, killed in WWI; Emit (or Emmett) living in Maud, OK in 1924 and Edd. He also had an aunt Linda and an aunt Sary (or Sarah).
